With Small Business Week coming to an end, we wanted to share our top three tips that we ourselves try to focus on as a small business! We’d love for you to comment on with your tips that help you stay focused and grow your business.
Fear of failure is real…it exists amongst even the best of us. It’s the one thing that will hold back any entrepreneur, regardless of how brilliant their business idea is. The desire to become a business owner exists in many of us, but worrying about things like money, time, taking on more responsibility, and the business failing can hold many people back. Knowing your reservations and addressing them is an important step to helping to achieve your goals.
Focus on Personal Development
Successful entrepreneurs see the value of personal development and make it a part of their everyday lives – working to improve on everything from body language, communication, and mental and physical health could inevitably mean improving on the future of your business. You can make self improvement a key part of your everyday life by taking additional courses, reading more, focusing on better time management, enhancing your people skills, finding time to relax and recharge, and exercising and eating right. As a busy entrepreneur, it could be difficult to incorporate all of these at once, but trying to work on some of these and investing in yourself will enable you to offer more to your business.
Don’t be Afraid to Sell Yourself (and your business)
If your an entrepreneur, you’re in the business of selling – selling a product or service! Of course, your natural instinct is to focus your efforts on selling your product or service, but what some of us forget is that people gravitate towards people as well. That’s why your interpersonal skills are so important. To some, it comes naturally while others might need a little more practice. There are ton’s of books and podcasts out there that focus on developing your interpersonal skills, and most of the time it just takes practice. Don’t be afraid to get out there and network and talk to people. Be an extension of your brand – both in person and online with your social media.
As a small business ourselves, we understand the importance of many of these points and have developed our Business Solutions line to provide assistance to fellow entrepreneurs who might need that extra hand to help them focus on time management as well to help develop online profiles. We have even planned our own networking events to allow other local businesses the opportunity to connect with each other.
